Big Signage at Little Cost

Put down the grease pen and pack up the plastic letters. It’s time to take your signage digital with Maitre'D POS and Revel Digital, our digital signage partner.

Digital signage is great. You can create menus that promote specials, loyalty programs and gift card sales; highlight brands; show news or sporting events; carry weather and other ticker feeds . . . and more. Having something interesting to watch minimizes customer impatience when your lines are long. (Digital signage is also useful for things like employee training and business meetings). And it’s not just the big chains that are converting to 100% digital signage (and they all are). Individual restaurants are moving just as quickly. In fact, digital signage has even found its way to the rolling lunch trucks.

Here’s the news. For those restaurants who have always looked at digital signage as a “nice to have,” now you can look at it as an “easy to have.”

With the Revel Digital signage system, all you need is an authorized device that serves as your media player, and the desktop you use every day. For large displays, you add a high definition TV. No software to install. No wiring. And no ongoing maintenance.

It’s really simple. You create your menus at your secure Maitre'D digital portal. There are plenty of templates to use and it won’t be long before you start creating your own. Think of a simple digital menu with three parts: On the left is a scrolling slideshow of your specials. On the right is a muted feed of the football game. In the middle is your current menu. To build that you just drag three blocks into your template. The left contains the slideshow. The middle contains your text (with all the font control you want). And the right contains your televised feed. All you do is drag, drop and type.

You can play your digital signage one of two ways. For smaller displays—let’s say a counter display that promotes your daily specials—you can use a 22” Android device. For displays that need to be on larger screens—or multiple screens—you’ll use a small mini-PC that plugs into the monitor. It’s all wireless. Both of these players are in constant touch with your portal, downloading and playing your menu playlist—you never have to do anything with your players except make sure they’re plugged in.

You can have as many playlists as you want, and play them according to a schedule you set at the portal. The players communicate with the portal every five minutes, so any changes you make will be live almost as soon as you make them. And those playlists can contain virtually anything you can think of: text, animations, graphics, video, live feeds and more.

The last thing to tell you is—it’s all done in the Cloud, which means the cost to you is low—$40 a month for the professional version with the Maitre’D gadget (allows integration with Maitre’D POS), plus the one-time cost of the player you choose. The price includes support, and there is no contract so you can cancel at any time without penalty.

So there you are. Looks great. Lots of flexibility. Simple to use.
