But an odd thing happened.
Usually, case studies are pretty easy to create. I’ll get on the phone with a customer and we’ll talk about the problems their operation faced, how they used Maitre'D to solve them, and what the results were. That turned out to be a challenge here.
Blue Collar has been using Maitre'D for years—with the help of our partner JK Business Specialists. In addition to the core platform, Blue Collar uses labor management, gift card and other modules. Blaine and I were talking right around the time of his first anniversary as Blue Collar’s GM. Blane was no stranger to POS (previously he was Operations Director at Chick-fil-A), but at Blue Collar, Maitre'D was in place when he came onboard.
And that was the odd thing about researching the case study.
Blane didn’t have any problems to solve.
“You really have it all dialed in” is what he told me. Now, that’s great for us to hear, but, from a writer’s point of view, not really the best kind of case study. All praise and no problem makes Jane a dull blog.
Or so I thought, until we got to DataBoard—our mobile app—and things got going. In fact, I think I can say that Blane is DataBoard’s number one fan.

It’s DataBoard’s right-this-second information from all six restaurants, wherever he is, that is the most powerful feature for Blane. With the mobile app, he can monitor ticket times, view current sales, monitor staff, track voids—keep an eye on every vital sign for each restaurant. This allows him to respond instantly to events before they become problems.
Blane told us the story of a busy afternoon at Sidewinders with a huge lunch crowd. Everyone was feeling the stress and strain that comes from an unexpectedly heavy day. In walks the Blue Collar Group owner. Bad timing? Far from it. Not only was it perfect timing, it was no accident. “He said he saw the numbers jump,” Blane told me, “and he came to help out.”
I’ll give Blane the last words. “The ability to monitor the restaurant's operations remotely . . . pretty amazing to have that at your fingertips.”
